Development Processes

F1 Solutions uses its proven in-house application development methodology, which is largely based on Microsoft application development tools. The specific steps used for developing any system will be specified when the requirements of the system are known or determined. However, the main phases of the development methodology used are:
  • Requirements gathering
  • Analysis
  • Design
  • Construction (as per the Project Plan generated from the Design phase)
  • Change management (to accommodate variations to the original specifications during the development process)
  • Quality Assurance (unit testing, system testing and limited “live” testing)
  • Production implementation
  • Training
  • Documentation (technical and end-user)
  • Post implementation review
  • Warranty
  • Ongoing maintenance (optional)
  • Enhancement and additional modifications (optional)
F1 Solutions is in the final stages of obtaining ISO9001 certification. F1 Solutions’ quality assurance and other business processes adhere to the ISO9001 standards. F1 Solutions employs continuous improvement management discipline to maintain best practice processes in the software development field. See F1’s Quality Policy statement.

Standards

All applications developed by F1 will use our standards which are based on the established and proven industry standards. We use structured programming techniques, document our code with relevant comments and use consistent and meaningful naming conventions. This results in:
  1. Code that is easy to maintain, hence low maintenance cost.
  2. Fewer logic errors, as most of the bugs would be identified and fixed in the early testing stages, and
  3. Enhancements can be made more cost effectively.
All the database tables will be normalised as per the proven database design standards used within the database industry and adopted by F1 Solutions. Normalised databases:
  1. Remove the need to store duplicate data. This means any updates or deletes will be performed on the single instance of the data.
  2. Contribute toward efficient report development.
  3. Enable the database to be easily extendable to accommodate future enhancements.
  4. Allow for fast entry of data.

Warranty

All F1 Solutions development work is warranted for a period of three months. The warranty period commences from the acceptance test completion date. On-site support is applicable to clients residing in the ACT. For interstate clients, problem resolution is conducted using dial-up facility.

Fees

F1 Solutions preference is to submit a fixed fee quote. The pre-requisite to providing a fixed fee quote is well defined and detailed system design specification.

F1 Solutions explicitly or implicitly always performs systems analysis to confirm the specifications and eliminate ambiguity. On completion of the analysis phase detailed design is developed and statement of work is specified. This information forms the basis of a project plan, deliverables schedule and payment schedule.

Tasks that cannot be specified in detail are usually performed on time and material (T&M) basis. F1 Solutions provides an estimate of the duration of task undertaken on T&M to give our client an indication of the duration and cost of the effort.
